Gurgaon homebuyers to join real estate bill protest against Rahul

Homebuyers from 66 condominiums in Gurgaon will join a demonstration against Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi in Delhi on Saturday as part of a nationwide protest against the leader for allegedly obstructing the passage of the Real Estate (Regulation and Development) Bill in Parliament.
Last year, Gandhi joined protests in favour of the bill and promised to lend his support. But, the flat owners - part of a nationwide campaign - allege the NDA government wants to pass the bill but the Opposition, including the Congress, is creating hurdles.

“In absence of a law, we all have been victims of developers and property agents who have been thriving on our hard-earned money and faltering on their promise of a home. The Bill (RERA) promised to address the issue, but due to the influential lobby, it is yet to be passed by Parliament, which is into its ninth year of making,” said a statement issued by the campaign titled “Fight for Rera”.
The protesters comprising homebuyers, RWA representatives and consumer associations from all over the country will assemble at Jantar Mantar at 10:45 am on March 5 and proceed towards Akbar Road (Congress headquarters).
The organisers said 66 resident welfare associations (RWAs) registered with Federation of Apartment Owners Association (FAOA), the pan-India flat owners body that is spearheading the campaign for the bill, are expected to be part of the protest.
“We have received the consent from all 66 RWAs registered with us. Some non-registered ones are also expected to be part of the protest,” said Shephalika Sharma, the Gurgaon-based vice president of FAOA.
There are above 500 condominiums in Gurgaon which include 200 run by private builders. Some of the RWAs from Gurgaon who will join the protest include Ambience Lagoon, Unitech World Spa, Uniworld Gardens, Nirvana Country, DLF Silver Oaks, Heritage City, to name a few.
The Bill, the buyers claim, will rein in builders who do not meet the completion deadlines and other agreement commitments.
